Whole30 vs. Paleo vs. Keto: What's the Difference?

Whole30 vs. Paleo

What is SIMILAR?

Whole30 is based off of the Paleo diet but with a few modifications. Both are associated with clean eating with real food, eliminating anything from your daily diet that has been processed. If it comes in a box or came with ingredients you can’t pronounce, toss it out! Both focus on getting people healthy, not necessarily to lose weight, but that is often an added effect.

Both rid gluten, grains (oats, quinoa, corn, rice, buckwheat, etc), legumes (beans, peanuts), refined sugar, chemical artificial sweeteners, preservatives.

What is the DIFFERENCE?

1. Sugar - Paleo allows refined sugar (Whole30 - no sugar at all)

2. Type of meat - Paleo only allows Grass-Fed Meat (Whole30 - recommends Organic & Grass-Fed, but not necessary)

3. Alcohol - Paleo allows Tequila (Whole30 - no alcohol whatsoever)

4. Salt - Paleo does not allow any added salt (Whole30 - added salt is okay)

5. Timeline- Paleo is meant for long term (Whole30 - only 30 days)

Whole30 vs. Keto Diet

What is the DIFFERENCE?

Keto - limits intake from carbohydrates to less than 10% of your daily caloric intake and increases your fat intake to more 70% of your daily caloric intake.

Body in constant ‘Ketosis’- sends the body into a metabolic state through the starvation of carbohydrates, which leads to the breakdown of fat.

Whole30- Elimination diet only for 30 days. No counting or restricting calories, weighing or measuring your food, or tracking what you’re eating. You’re just eating real, natural food to satiety.

1. Dairy - Keto allows dairy

2. Potatoes - Keto does not allow potatoes

3. Sweeteners - Keto allows sweeteners

4. Counting Macros - Keto must count carbohydrates & fats

5. Allows 'Healthy Swaps'- Keto does allow

No matter which you choose, please be sure to talk to your doctor before starting a program. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all program and I highly recommend trying different plans to see what works best for you.
